Experimental Film 2023
In this project I focused on the issue of how surveillance technology alters the behaviour of the elderly and subtly influences their perceptions of identity and their families, as the surveillance ensured Grandpa's safety but appeared to erode his sense of 'home'.
I. MY GRANDFATHE
Grandpa is my most important family member.
However, Grandpa's life in his old age is very different from what it used to be, since he lived along after my grandmother passed away.
Grandpa was able to travel a lot when he was younger because of his job. In those days of material scarcity, he had already travelled to many places in China.
As Grandfather get older, he insisted on living alone. After a sudden stomach haemorrhage, my mother and uncle decided to install a surveillance in his house to keep an eye on him. Grandfather refused to do out anymore since that.
II. GRANDFATHER'S SNACKS
I noticed that surveilance also influenced grandfather’s habit of eating snacks.
III. NARRATIVE VIDEOS
In this project I wanted to create a narrative through scenes by utilizing props with associated sets of video combinations. The scenes setting took elements from my Grandfather's past home and aimed to restore a corner of his old house. Using single sofa to show Grandpa's single life. The main narrative is accomplished through three sets of videos.

WE CAN KEEP AN EYE ON HIM
I combined scenarios and imagery to narrate how excessive scrutiny undermined the essence of caring, in order to prompt my audience to contemplate such 'contradictory caring' it creates.
